Spring DIY: Pom-pom basketsDate:
Spring has finally sprung, and with it comes the feeling of rejuvenation. Giving your outfits and accessories a makeover is fun way to Spring clean and the quick route to a fresh start. Introducing vibrant colours is a simple way to brighten your mood, and repurposing old into something new is a budget-friendly alternative that makes a statement impact. With this in mind, your favourite market basket, a staple item during Spring and Summer, can also have a makeover of its own. Pom-poms have become a fun summer trend and adding some fluffy colour to your basket makes it look like a whole new basket! This DIY tutorial is easy to do and if you decide you no longer want the pom-poms, it’s also easy to remove. So let’s get pom-poming! The first step, of course, is making the pom-poms. There are many different ways to do this, but we found this tutorial the easiest. All you need is some cardboard, scissors and different coloured wools (or use all the same colour if you prefer!). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EULHNtikVxg Now that you have your pom-poms, you’ll need:
Step 1: Thread your needle with fishing wire and knot at the end. Step 2: Lay your basket flat and place your middle pom-pom where you’d like it to go. We positioned it between the handles then about an inch from the top. Step 3: Holding your pom-pom to the basket, stand the basket back up and thread the needle through the inside, lining it up with the middle of the pom-pom. Step 4: Thread the needle through the loop of wool that holds the pom-pom together, and then back through to the inside of the basket. Do this 2 more times until the pom-pom is secure, and tie off the fishing wire. Step 5: Repeat the process with the rest of your pom-poms and admire your instant basket facelift! You can play around with different colours, sizes and positions – the possibilities are endless! If you want to change colours or move the pom-poms around, simply snip the fishing wire and pull out any loose threads. If you take on this DIY, be sure to share a photo with us! We love to see our market baskets all dolled up.
