A Basket Full of Goodness

One of our favourite weekend ventures is visiting the farmer's market on a Sunday morning. A basket full of fresh fruit & vegetables is simply brimming with healthy goodness. Increasing your consumption of fresh food has many health benefits, including higher energy and healthier skin & hair. It also helps with deceasing your risk of heart disease and Type 2 Diabetes.

So let's take a look at what specific foods are doing for you and your body:

- APPLES -

“An apple a day keeps the doctor away” is an ancient saying. Its true! Apple is one of the best available anti oxidants. It cleans teeth, destroys bacteria and helps with digestion.

- ASPARAGUS -
Asparagus is a dynamic liver tonic and the liver is the energy source of the body.

- CARROTS -
Carrots keep the lymph glands clean and healthy. They are an anti-inflammatory as well as an antiseptic. Juice them to get your immune system back on track!

- CELERY -
This veggie has a calming effect on the nervous system due to its high calcium levels. It is rich in iron and vitamins A, B and C. It also fights high blood pressure. Should be eaten raw for best results!

- CORN -
Corn is a natural Antioxidant which helps protect the body from cancer and heart disease. Its benefits are actually increased when corn is cooked. Sweet corn is loaded with lutein and zeaxanthin, two phytochemicals that promote healthy vision

- CUCUMBER -
Cucumber is rich in vitamin C and can be used as an inner and outer body cleanser. It’s a good skin cleanser and an excellent anti-inflammatory vegetable. It works beautifully in soothing tired eyes. Slice, cover eyes and lie down for 10 minutes!

- LEMONS -
Lemon has been used for generations for its therapeutic properties. It is rich in vitamin C and has a powerful cleansing effect on the entire digestive tract. It cleanses the liver, stimulates the immune system and is a great antiseptic.

- POTATOES -
Potatoes have been used since ancient times as medicine. This vegetable is very rich in vitamins, minerals and especially vitamin C. The potato skin is full of potassium

- TOMATOES -
Tomatoes help maintain strong bones as they contain a considerable amount of calcium and potassium.

Eating fresh food will help you feel better both inside and out. So why not visit the farmer's markets, or your local fruit barn, and stock up your pantry with a basket full of goodness.
